THE annual Ikeja Ladies Open Golf championship, which was postponed last year due to health challenges in some West African countries, will tee off at the Ikeja Golf Club on Monday with Caddies taking the first shot. Star players from Ghana, South Africa and Kenya are expected to take part in the championship. 

  The lady captain of the Golf Section, Dr. Veronica Chaka-Awatai said that apart from the Caddies who tee off the event, Professional golfers, ladies and gentlemen golfers are expected to be part of the weeklong competition.

  Dr. Chaka-Awatai explained that the competition would tees off with fanfare, noting that lots of trophies have been lined up for grab.

  “This championship is going to be special, because it is an Open and a major championship at the beginning of a New Year. It is good way to start the year and we are going to give all we have to make it is a huge success,” she said.

  According to her, the championship has attracted various sponsors, including ICMA, Golden Penny, Coca Cola, Castle Beer, Ethiopian Airline, Broll and Ibru Organisation.

   Some of the players to watch out for in the competition are the club champion Alaba Adetunji, Amina Wilfred who is expected to fly in from Abuja, former Ibadan golf club lady captain, Evelyn Oyome and Angela Adegboyega among others.  

  The competition will be round up with a gala night on Saturday, January 31.
