Nigeria’s Georgia Oboh yesterday made good her promise to be among the leaders at the on-going World Stars of Junior Golf Tournament when she played her way into the final round of the competition holding in Las Vegas, United States.

Yesterday was the second day of the competition featuring the best young stars in the game and Oboh, who is competing in the girls’ 15 to16 years category against youngsters from China, Thailand, India, Australia and host, the United States, is now among the last six players in the final round of the championship.

The top five players are expected to make the medal podium at the end of the three-day championship-taking place at the Paiute’s Golf Course.Over 300 athletes from more than 20 countries and below 18 years are in the World Stars of Junior Golf tournament, which is a premier world junior golf tournament aimed at providing boys and girls of all ages with the most competitive field and the ultimate tournament experience.

Next week, Oboh will move to North Carolina for the US Kids World Championship to continue her build to securing a place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
Georgia’s father, Godfrey Oboh, who is in Las Vegas with her daughter, said the girl showed her stuff against some of the world’s best in Las Vegas, while admitting that fund still remained a major challenge for her daughter.

“I am so impressed with the performance of Georgia having made the final round of the tournament. She is just one shot away from making the medal podium. I believe that this kind of competition will put her in good shape to fulfill her dream of becoming the first Nigerian to compete in the golf event of the Olympic Games. But I must admit that we are still bogged down by poor finance.

“We have been relying on friends and relations to embark on some of the trips. We are still hoping that corporate Nigerians will identify with the dream of Georgia by support her quest to bring glory to Nigeria,” he said.

The World Stars of Junior Golf tournament is a professionally operated event by PGA golf professionals, PGA apprentices and volunteers makes this a must play for all juniors. This tournament is a nationally ranked by NJGS, Golfweek, Scratch Player World Ranking, R & A, and recognized by AJGA with performance stars.
