Genesis academy, winners of UK’s biggest youth tournament return

The victorious young lads of Genesis Football Academy who participated in their maiden appearance at the English International Super Cup in Manchester, United Kingdom (UK), were given a heroic welcome at the Murtala Mohammed Internation Airport on Sunday, after their arrival with the U-16 summer competition throphy.

Genesis Football Academy was established on August 3, 2018, as the football academy of the Celestial Church of Christ Genesis Global with the mission to pick up talented boys from the streets and mold them into future stars.

At the reception before their departure on July 24, presiding shepherd of the church, Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe, had challenged the boys, who were given their traveling passports to do themselves, the church and nation proud by going on to win their first major title as an academy.

With over 118 teams participating at the tournament in both the male and female U-7 and U-16 competition from UK, United States of America, Europe, Asia and some parts of Africa, the Genesis Academy went on to defeat their opponents to win, including another Nigerian team and defending champions, Buruj Sports Academy.

The U.K’s biggest international youth football tournament is played in the heart of the world-renowned home of football – Manchester, England. Only a short journey from Old Trafford, Etihad Stadium and the National Football Museum. Teams from around the world perform in front of English Premier League scouts, looking to find future stars of the game.

Nigeria’s sole representative at the 2017 edition of English International Super Cup, Buruj Sports Academy emerged champions of the youth tournament concluded on Sunday in the city of Manchester.

The Lagos based academy was the cynosure of all at the tournament which had teams from over 20 countries across the world competing as the Nigerian boys displayed exceptional skills right from the preliminary round.

Buruj Sports Academy who competed in the Manchester tournament for the first time faced tough opposition in the final but Wit Worth Park Boys Football Academy who are playing at home failed to ruin their party.

Azeez Oseni who has been a revelation at the tournament netted the lone goal that secured a deserved 1-0 win for the Ikorodu based side.
