Frontline sports philanthropist, Frank Momoh, has urged Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to work towards reviving sports in the state, which was once the nursery of talented athletes for the country.

Momoh, who sponsors the annual Edo FA Cup, Schools Sports and clinics, among others, believes the state will rise to the summit of Nigerian sports again if the necessary facilities were put in place by the state government.

He said, “It is heartwarming to note that Governor Obaseki has shown that he will not relegate sports to the background. Sports is life and life is sports so I expect him to recognise that the sector can provide jobs for Edo youths.

“The governor was at the final of the Edo FA Cup this year and we believe it is not by chance that he is coming in this time when we have dynamic administrators like the Frank Ilaboya-led FA board leading our sports.

“One thing we want from him is the revival of Bendel Insurance because so much revolves around the team.”

On his nomination for the Outstanding Sports Personality of the Year Award at the Edo FA awards billed for Benin this weekend, Momoh praised the Edo FA for the initiative. He said, “it is laudable because a pat on the back helps to encourage more efforts.

“I am happy that this current board started the awards and will sustain it as a way of encouraging people to do their best.”
