Okowa Drags Keshi, Okala Other Ex-Eagles To Warri
THE governorship campaign by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, will take a new turn tomorrow when ex-internationals from Delta/Edo states take on their counterparts from other parts of the country at the Warri City Stadium. The match is being organised by friends of Okowa.
Former Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, will lead ex-Eagles players from Delta/Edo State, while legendary goalkeeper and member of the 1980 Nations Cup winning Green Eagles squad, Emmanuel Okala, will head the coaching crew of ex-internationals from other parts of Nigeria.
Chairman of Publicity Committee for the match, Moses Etu, told The Guardian yesterday that Keshi, who is yet to be given a new contract by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has agreed to handle the Delta/Edo team, which has Harry Blackson, Mobosa Brodericks, Duke Udi, Samson Ozogula, Sam Okpodu, Edema Fuludu, Prince Afejukwu, Sam Sodje, Humphrey Jebba and Davidson Owumi.
Others in the Delta/Edo team include Tosan Blackson, Kenneth Nwomucha, Lucky Sunday, Joshua Kator, Sam Otis, Joseph Cole and Sebastine Okoh.
Some former Super Eagles players who hail from Delta/Edo State, including Austin Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Nduka Ugbade, Bright Omokaro, Clement Temile and Austin Eguavoen will feature for the team to be handled by Okala.
Etu said: “Stephen Keshi has sent words that he would like to handle the Delta/Edo side of ex-internationals and with that, the onus to coach the rest of the country fell on Emmanuel Okala. The players will arrive Warri today.”
Meanwhile, Warri Wolves feeder team will lock horns with Mowoe Babes before the ex-internationals will take their turn at Warri City Stadium on Sunday.
