Glo tips LMC’s Super Six to re-ignite fans’ interest in NPL
TEAMS participating in the 2015 Super Six tournament have been urged to use the competition to re-ignite fans’ interest in the local game as the new season approaches.
Title sponsor of Glo Premier League, Globacom made this call in a press statement in Lagos on Saturday, saying, “we look forward to witnessing a great competition among the teams, especially with the inclusion of junior national teams.’’
The Super Six competition, which started in Abuja on Saturday, and will be rounded off on January 31, 2015, involves reigning Glo Premier League champions, Kano Pillars, runners-up Enyimba, Federation Cup runners-up, Dolphins of Port Harcourt and Warri Wolves, as well as the national Under-23 and Under-20 teams, who are participating in the competition for the first time complete the list.
Glo also believed that the tournament would enable the Glo Premier League clubs to test their new signings and blend them with the old players in their squads ahead of the new season.
“For Kano Pillars and Enyimba, it will provide ample opportunity for them to prepare for the CAF Champions League preliminaries which kicks off next month,” Glo added.
The telecommunications company commended the organisers of the tournament, Nigeria Football Federation and the League Management Company for their foresight, saying the pre-season competition would boost the quality of football in the country.
“We believe the Super Six couldn’t have come at a better time to put the fans in the football mood as the new League season kicks off in March,” the statement further said.
