BABATUNDE Raji Fashola Fans Club has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of Princess Sarah Sosan female football competition.

BRF Fans Club of Lagos Island Local Council defeated Aspirant Queens of Yaba LCDA 3-0 to clinch the first position of the female football competition. It was a clash of the titans during the final stage of the competition between the two teams, as BRF was at its best and displayed different levels of skills and dexterity while also entertaining the audience, which included Princess Sosan.

Since the inception of the competition on April 4, over 24 schools from different local council areas have participated in the competition, now leaving BRF and the Aspirant Queens for the finals. Aspirant Queen emerged the second, while Y.M.D. Queens came third at the overall competition.

Carting away most awards at the tourney was Azeezat Oshoola, who won the most valuable player and the highest goal scorer (with 10 goals) during the tournament.

Speaking at the competition, the brain behind the competition, Princess Sosan, said she felt delighted organising this maiden edition of the competition, adding that the competition has indeed come to stay. She said: “I feel highly delighted to be part of this strong initiative of engaging our young women in sports.

“It has been my dream way back to do something for the female youths in Lagos, and I thank God I have been able to successfully organise it.”

Her flair for the development of female football was however ignited when she received a proposal from the Lagos Island Youth Sports Association requesting the deputy governor to sponsor the first female competition, which she gladly consented to. Sosan noted that in due time, the competition would become go inter-state, with more sponsors leveraging on it.

She said the winning teams would be sponsored all through their education and have the opportunity to compete with their counterparts round the world.
