ORGANISERS of Warri Tennis Coaching Clinic, a talent hunt programme powered by Iso-Black Concept Limited, have engaged the services of more experienced coaches to handle thousands of youthful tennis players expected to grace the Season Two of the event. It will hold from April 13 to 25 in Warri, Delta State.

The Iso-Black WTCC is a talent search, discover and develop strategic sports initiative specifically designed to produce outstanding young international tennis players from the grassroots through individual and corporate sponsorship.

The maiden edition took place at Shell Club, Ogunu, Warri, Delta State, from April 7 to 19, 2014 and it attracted over 300 youths, who benefitted from the expertise of seven coaches, led by the Clinic Technical Director, former national tennis player, Robinson Odoko.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer of Iso-Black Concept Limited, Igho Okor, said with the experience garnered last year, the Season Two would be more exciting with additional incentives.

“Strategies have been developed to take care of the shortcomings and lapses observed in an innovative manner,” Okor said.

According to him, prices will be awarded to outstanding players discovered during the coaching clinic, but warned that late registration would not be entertained this time around.

“Discipline which is the bedrock of excellent play and development will be enforced inside and outside the courts. Moreover, parents will be persuaded to stay around to observe how their wards are faring in an effort to raise the level of awareness,” he said.

The participants, aged between six and 16 years, are mostly primary school pupils and secondary school students drawn from private and public schools in Warri.

According to Okor, at the maiden edition last year, the children were introduced to the fundamentals of the game of tennis in the lecture hall. They also acquired practical experience on the tennis court.

“This time around, participants are encouraged to come with writing materials to facilitate the noting down of important points for ease of reference because according to the organisers, visual aids, white boards, sketches and diagrams will be extensively used for effective illustrations.

“This will help the children to easily understand certain techniques and procedures they need to learn and master, bearing in mind the dictum a picture is worth more than a thousand words,” Okor said.
