A friendly football match organized by Candlelight to create awareness in order to reduce hunger in the country took place in Lagos recently, with Fint triumphing over Paga in the thrilling encounter.

Candlelight Foundation, a non-profitable organization staged the friendly game at the National Stadium, Lagos.
Fint emerged winner on penalty after both sides played 2-2 in regulation time.

Speaking after his side victory, the captain of Team Fint Nnamdi Okeke, said he was excited for the victory.

He said: “Passion gave us the victory today because we did not train for this game. We came at different time and agreed to play the game.”

He applauded Candlelight Foundation for its initiative aimed at tackling hunger. “This is a charity event, and Candlelight Foundation is using football to make an impact. Using football over hunger is a very smart and efficient tool that everybody will want to be part of. I will advise them to make this a yearly event and also do other sports like tennis.”

On his part, the captain of team Paga, Marvelous Owugo said: “Everybody loves to win, and we wanted to win, but we could not. Next time we will do better.” Commenting on the initiative, Owugo said: “It is a laudable initiative. The fact that they are feeding the motherless and people that can not afford a meal makes it a good program.”

He advised other corporate organistions to team up with Candlelight Foundation to alleviate hunger in the country. “I will advice other corporate bodies to join this initiative by giving back to society, touch lives and impact the world by giving positively.”

In her remarks, the Executive Director of Candlelight Foundation, Uzoamaka Okeke, revealed that the motive behind it was to drive hunger awareness in the country.

“Basically, there is hunger in the country. This is to create awareness to the public about the hunger emergency in Nigeria, and solicit for supports from the public in alleviating it.

“The Candlelight Foundation is a charity and we give out free food every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We take kids off the streets and provide education for them.” She added that the foundation intends to take the awareness to other sectors soon.
