Fifteen states ready for National Triathlon Championship

Over Fifteen states from across the country have signified their intention of participating in this year’s National Triathlon Championship, which will hold from November 27 to 29 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

President of the National Triathlon Union (NTU), Dr Lanre Glover, said in Lagos yesterday that the event was aimed at discovering talents from the grassroots, who would be nurtured to represent the country at international championships.

He also disclosed that Triathlon, which is a three in one event, would not future swimming this year, as they were no standard Olympic-sized swimming pool in the country.

“Over 15 states, schools and private clubs have indicated their interest to compete at the event,” he said, adding,

“at this point in time our focus is on Decathlon. The elite athletes will run four Kilometers, ride a bicycle for 20 kilometers and also cover two Kilometers.

“The junior category will only cover a few meters. All the states in the federation still have the chance to participate in the championship by applying through the federation.”

He listed states that have already indicated interest to participate at the event as Delta, Oyo, Ogun, Edo, Rivers, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Bornu, Imo and the FCT, Abuja.
