The competition department of the Federation of Basketball Association (FIBA) has said the body will hold a workshop in the country for the newly introduced AFRO Basketball League.

According to the NBBF, the one-day workshop is billed for June 30 by 10pm during the FIBA 2019 World Cup qualifier in Lagos. Venue is the sports writers’ secretariat, National Stadium, Surulere.

The workshop will attract premier league owners, managers from Nigeria, presidents and representatives of countries within FIBA Africa zone 3.

President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, Col. Sam Ahmedu (rtd), who is also a member of the Afro league study group, stated that the workshop is necessary based on the growing trend in global basketball.

The Nigeria Basketball Federation has equally concluded plans to hold a FIBA referees/technical commissioners course in the country in conjunction with FIBA Africa immediately after the World Cup qualifiers.

According to the board, to ensure that more referees and technical commissioners participate, a certified instructor nominated by FIBA will conduct the training.

The training holds in Lagos from July 2 to 4 and July 5 to 7 in Abuja.

NBBF President, Engr. Musa Kida, said organising the International Referees and Technical Commissioners Course was a direct fulfillment of the promise made at the last stakeholders meeting as a follow up to the 2017 training for Certified Table Officials and Statisticians.
