Former Coach of the Super Falcons, Edwin Okon, has described Super Falcons’ victory at the just concluded African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) as a new impetus to the development of the game in the country.

The Falcons successfully defended the AWCON title they won two years ago by beating the Lionesses of Cameroun 1-0 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.

Speaking to The Guardian yesterday, Okon, who said he had predicted a tough battle between the two finalists, said he had expected more from the Cameroonians than what they gave on Saturday.

“Before the match, I had predicted a very tough encounter between us and the Cameroonians. But what I saw was not what I had looked forward to,” he said.

Okon said the victory should serve as the stepping-stone to greater things for the Florence Omagbemi-tutored side, saying there are still grey areas for the technical crew to address.

“The coach of the team is the one that has an insight into the team. Everything about the team depends on her vision and those things she will like to correct in order to beef up the team. Whether she will have to invite new players or not, all depends on her,” he stated.
