Ezenwa named CHAN Eagles’ captain as players talk tough

Super Eagles’ Goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa will lead the home-based national team in their journey to qualifier for the Kenya 20918 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Nigeria will meet Benin Republic in then last qualifying round with the winner over two legs getting the ticket to Kenya.Home-based Eagles Coach, Salisu Yusuf yesterday named Ezenwa the captain of the team withy the side’s former skipper, Enyimba of Aba defender, Chima Akas to serve as his deputy.Ezenwa and Akas were in the team to the last CHAN in Rwanda, where Nigeria was knocked in the group stage.

Meanwhile, Lobi Stars’ goalkeeper, Okiemute Odah and MFM’s Sikiru Olatunbosun believe that nothing can stop Nigeria from hoisting its flag at the Kenya 2018 CHAN.

Reacting to Benin Republic’s defeat of Togo in the last qualifying round, Odah, a former Bussdor of Port Harcourt captain, said: “I want to play in my second CHAN tournament in 2018 after the experience of 2016.

“For the qualifying matches, I may or may not be in goal, that is not paramount now, qualification to the main tournament is what matters.”Striker, Olatunbosun, who recently won the CNN Goal of The Week, believes Nigeria has al the ingredients to beat the Beninoise. “My expectations are that we will qualify for the tournament and win it.

“This will be my first CHAN matches and Benin will not stop my dream of playing at the tournament.“I was in the Super Eagles side that played against Togo in France in a friendly in June so I am not bothered about Benin.“I just want to contribute to our victory.”
