Father-to-be Robert Lewandowski is reportedly set to extend his Bayern Munich contract having used his goal celebration to announce that his wife is pregnant.

The 28-year-old Poland star has a Bayern contract until June 2019, but the Bavarian giants are eager to hold onto their prized striker.

He netted his 24th goal for club and country this season with a superb first-half free-kick in Bayern’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday with both teams already in the Champions League last 16.

“It was always my dream to announce out on the pitch that my wife is pregnant,” Lewandowski said having shoved the match ball under his shirt and stuck his thumb in his mouth.

His wife Anna is five months pregnant with their first child.

“The goal was for her and the baby in her belly. We are very happy.”

Lewandowski’s free-kick was his 37th goal in the Champions League for Munich and ex-club Borussia Dortmund.

Behind the scenes, Bayern are working to finalise a two-year extension.

“It won’t be very much longer before he signs,” Lewandowski’s agent Maik Barthel told Kicker magazine on Monday.

The club has confirmed conversations are ongoing.

“There has been a conversation between my colleagues and (Lewandowski’s) father, who is one of his advisors,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Sky last Friday.

Lewandowski drilled his free-kick just inside the post, giving goalkeeper Jan Oblak no chance as Atletico conceded their first goal in five matches.

“He’s already been shooting exceptional things in training the whole season. That is the reward for hard work,” said Bayern defender Mats Hummels.

The striker is the key name Bayern want to renew with ageing stars Arjen Robben, 32, and Xabi Alonso, 34, plus Rafinha, Holger Badstuber, Julian Green and Kingsley Coman all out of contract next June.

Captain Philipp Lahm has a contract until June 2018, but Rummenigge has given strong indications the 32-year-old is being groomed for the vacant director of sport job.
