Former Nigerian junior national champion, Samuel Boboye, at the weekend took the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) African Championships by storm to announce his arrival into the senior division in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Former Nigerian junior national champion, Samuel Boboye, at the weekend took the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) African Championships by storm to announce his arrival into the senior division in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The seventeen-year-old Boboye convincingly defeated Olympian and Algeria’s Larbi Bouriah 4-0 to create an upset to the admiration of fans at the Sports Palace Complex in Yaounde.

The teenage sensation showed comportment that denies his age to beat one of Africa’s experienced players, who is ranked 19 on the continent 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 in an exceptional display of talent.

Speaking on his performance, a delighted Boboye said his confidence never let him down in a match-up against a high experienced opponent.

“I knew nothing about him apart from his being one of the players that featured for his country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“I was very confident going into the match and very positive throughout the entire match. I am happy winning my first game,” he said.

Boboye added that “I am in Cameroon to give my best and I am so excited to be a part of the team that has Quadri Aruna.

“His presence alone motivates me and I am hoping that I can go far and be ready to face any opponent that comes my way,” Boboye stated.
