Djokovic, Agut into Wimbledon semifinals

Novak Djokovic romped into the semifinals of the Wimbledon yesterday with a 6/4, 6/0, 6/2 victory over Belgium’s David Goffin, while Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut survived a four-set battle with Argentina’s Guido Pella that ended 7/5, 6/4, 3/6, 6/3.

Djokovic clinched the first set 6/4 and raced to a 3-0 lead in the second. Goffin did not take a point on his serve before conceding the break for 4-0 and Djokovic extended the lead to 5-0.

The Belgian was taken to deuce in the sixth game and survived the first break point before losing the set 6-0 on the second. In the third set, Djokovic was taken to deuce before holding the frist game on serve and he broke his opponent to lead 3-1 lead.

In the fifth game, Goffin had three opportunities to break Djokovic’s serve, but was denied until the defending champion won on his first advantage. Although Goffin won his serve to take the sixth game, Djokovic won the set 6/2 on a second break in the eighth game and booked his place in the semifinals.

The hard fighting Spaniard, Roberto Bautista Agut took the frist game 7-5 from Guido Pella and broke his opponent in the first game of the second set. Although Guido took Agut’s serve in the third game, the tally was stretched to 3-1.

The set progressed with serve to 6/4 for Agut. The Argentine won the first three games of the third set and proceded to win 6/3. In the fourth set, Agut held the first game to lead 1-0 and his opponent leveled. Pella dropped serve in the fourth game for 3-1 and that was sufficient for Agut to take the set 6/3.

In the other matches, Roger Federer lost the first set /6 and won the next two 6/1, 6/4 to Kei Nishikori, while Nadal took the first 7/5 from America’s Sam Querrey.
