Cadbury Nigeria Plc announced yesterday that it would host a sports tournament tagged: ‘Cadbury Bournvita Duathlon Championship,’ in collaboration with Nigeria Triathlon Union (NTU), on February 10 in Lagos.

The event is a duathlon of three-part long-distance race that usually comprise a running phase, a bicycling phase, and a final running phase.

The Company’s Corporate and Government Affairs Director for West Africa, Mr. Bala Yesufu said the national championship would feature both male and female athletes in junior and senior categories across some states of the federation, including some schools and recreational clubs.

“Cadbury is proud to be associated with this sporting competition, which is one of our brand touchpoints,” he said. “This is just one out of the several ways that we help promote sports development in the country. We believe the championship will further expose some of the hidden sports talents that we have in Nigeria.”

Yesufu added that Cadbury Nigeria, which is famous for providing consumers with much-loved brands, re-launched Bournvita, its heritage cocoa beverage drink, with a new improved taste, last year. He said Cadbury would continue to delight consumers with its various brand offerings and give them value for money.

Similarly, President of NTU, Prince Wale Oladunjoye, stated that athletics and cycling clubs in Nigeria have also been invited to participate in the tournament, which he noted, is the first of its kind in the country. He added that the Cadbury Bournvita Duathlon Championship, which will be introduced to schools in all the geopolitical zones of the country, is one of the numerous events that the Union has lined up for 2019.
