Despite the array of stars lined up for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which will hold on February 2, the President/CEO of Bunu Bunu Culture and Sporting Company Limited, Izuchukwu Udegbunam has predicted that Kenyan marathoner, Kiboss Ronny Kipkoech will emerge champion.

Bunu Bunu Culture and Sporting Company Limited are managers of Kipkoech and Joshua Kipkorir besides other Nigerian marathoners, who have shown class in previous editions of the championship.

Udegbunam said they were banking on Kipkoech to improve on his second placing in 2017 and 2018 editions, considering the quality training he is current undergoing.

“Kipkoech has been in top form and he is targeting the number one position this time out. He particularly wants to improve on his two hours, 13 minutes, 23 seconds of 2018, just 19 seconds behind the winner and has vowed never to allow fellow Kenyan, Abram Kiprotich outwit him as it were last year. ”

“Even Joshua Kipkorir, who was absent in Nigeria last year is itching to rule in Lagos. He has got lot of training and exposure from winning the Singapore Marathon held December, 2018,” said Udegbunam, who also spoke of plans to motivate Nigerian marathoners to stardom.

“At Bunu Bunu Sports, we are also developing Nigerian stars. Indeed the likes of Adamu Muazu, Hamadjan Soudi, Gyang Emmanuel, Deborah Pam, Yohanna Dinatu, Ihekandu Philomina and Genevieve Njoku are marathoners that would be world beaters soon,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Cricket Oval of the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos Island has been a beehive of activities since the distribution of running kits and goodie bags to registered runners for the 2019 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon began at the venue on Monday.

Yussuf Alli, the General Manager for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, explained that the opening of another channel of distribution for kits to intending runners was introduced to make things easier.

“We have started the channel in Lagos Island for intending runners to pick up their kits and goodie bag at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval. This has started since Monday and it has eased things for those coming from the Island axis.

“In the form, it was indicated that people should pick where they want to collect their kits and goodie bags; whether the Mainland or Island and a good number picked the Island, so we have opened that channel, so I enjoin people to go and collect on time,” Alli said.
