‘Boxing Federation ready for Minimah Open’

The Nigeria Boxing Federation says it has concluded plans for the maiden Kenneth Minimah National Men and Women Open Boxing Championship holding from June 28 to July 4 at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Complex, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

According to the Federation’s Secretary General, Olusola Luke, the men will fight in 10 different categories, while only six weight divisions will feature in the women category. These include 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 69kg and 75kg weight class.

He revealed that the Championship is Open to all the states of the Federation, including the Federal capital Territory, Abuja and all affiliated Boxing Clubs.

To this end, he advised, interested states to forward the list of 10 male boxers in various weight categories and their best six female fighters for the women event.

With the National Open also serving as trials for the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville, President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, Kenneth Minimah, has also advised states to take the Championship seriously, warning that only boxers that featured in the tournament would be selected for the All Africa Games.
