Bayelsa State has continued the rehabilitation of its existing sports facilities and construction of new ones, including a sports academy, a polo field and a top grade golf course.

The state’s governor, Seriake Dickson, recently awarded a contract for the complete renovation of the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, which job is nearing completion. And now he has embarked on
other multi-million naira sports projects.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Monimichelle Nigeria, Ebi Egbe, a stadium construction expert, whose firm is handling the projects, Bayelsa would soon have a fusion of all sports academy in Asuama, comprising 60 per cent education and 40 per cent sports.

The academy when completed will have a state of the art IAAF approved eight lane athletics track, full size FIFA approved soccer pitch for local and international matches,  swimming pool, multipurpose SIPU courts and indoor sports hall.

“The good thing happening to Bayelsa right now is that Governor Dickson wants to revolutionize sports in the state with modern facilities and use sports to drive Bayelsa State’s tourism industry. As we speak, the governor is constructing a top grade golf course and a polo field; our Gloryland Castle has been converted to a five-star hotel to house our visitors and we are currently working on the Bayelsa fusion sports academy project at Asuama. “The academy would be the best in Africa when completed.

The Samson Siasia Stadium project is nearing completion. By the time these projects are ready, Bayelsa would become the new Mecca of sports in the country,” Egbe stated.

Egbe pointed out that what is needed to take sports to the next level in the country is modern facilities as found in the developed world.“One thing I want to assure is that Monimichelle will deliver. We are doing a thorough job which Bayelsans would be proud of,” Egbe said.
