Baseball U-13, Softball U-17 competitions hold August 13

Defending champion, Delta State, six other clubs from Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and the Federal Capital, Abuja, will feature in this year’s second edition of the Ayangburen U-13 Baseball and U-17 Softball championships.

The contest, a grassroots development initiative, will hold between August 14 and 19 at the Igbobi College, Yaba in Lagos.Baseline Foundation’s Director, Magnus Ike said the competition would be organised in honour of the traditional ruler of Ikorodu Town, Oba Kabiru Shotobi.

This, he said, was to mark Shotobi’s second year on the throne.

According to him, “This competition is to felicitate with the Oba of Ikorodu, who is the grand patron of the foundation and also to discover budding talents in the sport.

“This year’s edition will be more interesting and competitive because more clubs and teams have already shown interest in the championships.“The first edition in 2016 started the same day baseball and softball were returned to the 2020 Olympic Games, and from that day we decided to make it a yearly event,” he said.

The Foundation director promised that the body would continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association in order to enhance the profile of the sport.
