The proprietor of the Light Academy Group of Schools, Mrs. Stella Oloruntowoju has described school sports competition as one important means of discovering young talents in sports to replace the ageing ones, saying that the component of complete learning process should be developed in the interest of the country.

Speaking at her school’s annual inter-house sports competition at Odo-Ona Elewe, Ibadan, Mrs. Oloruntowoju explained that sports was an essential part of the school curriculum, adding that it catered for the physical well-being of the pupils.

“We don’t only raise scientists and artists, but also athletes, in the likes of Lionel Messi, Blessing Okagbare and the Williams sisters, which is in line with our mission and vision of building a total society where all the fields of knowledge are balanced”, Oloruntowoju said.

She urged governments at all levels to give schools sports adequate attention, stressing that it was the authentic process of discovering genuine young athletes that their ages could be ascertained.

“The future of the country in track and field events will remain bleak if our government and sports administrators don’t change their attitude towards the school’s sports,” she noted.

At the school’s inter-house sports competition, Green House came first, Yellow finished second, while Red House picked the third spot.
