Asaba ready to host Super Eagles, says Okowa

Delta State’s Commissioner for Sports, Tony Okowa has assured Nigerians that the state was 100 per cent ready to host the Super Eagles’ 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Leon Stars of Sierra Leone on March 27 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Okowa told The Guardian yesterday that Delta State had put all logistics in place to ensure the game was successful, noting that the state government had been maintaining the Stephen Keshi Stadium’s football pitch regularly.

The Delta State Sports Commissioner enjoined football-loving Nigerian to turn out en masse to cheer the Super Eagles to victory on march day, adding, “the state government is always in contact with the NFF to ensure the success of the AFCON qualifier game.

“The Delta State governor is a sports-loving governor, who is ready to support the Eagles always.”

On the forthcoming National Sports Festival, Okowa said Delta teams for the “various sports have been training every day morning and evening, except Sunday, for the National Sports Festival taking place in Edo State.

“The final camping of athletes will begin early next month and the government is fully on ground to ensure Team Delta get the best preparation for the festival.”
