GOLFERSGENERAL Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army and patron, Tiger Golf Club, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. L.C. Ilo, has promised to work towards getting more members of the country’s armed forces to be interested in the sport.

Ilo, who is also patron of Ibadan Golf Club, made the promise in his remarks at the send forth of his predecessor in office, Maj. Gen. S.N Muaza, an event that also served as his welcome ceremony.

According to Iloh, “golf is a very important game in the Nigerian Armed Forces. It is the only game I see senior generals still remain keen participants several years after retirement. The Chief of Army Staff places sports and physical fitness at the top of his priority agenda, as he takes measures to reposition the Nigerian Army and make it more responsive in his statutory role. That is why all the field commanders have keyed into his vision.

It is the more reason why during my period as the patron of these two golf clubs, I will do my utmost to ensure that myself and my officers develop greater interest in the game of golf. Because I believe that impacts are more effective as participant and not as spectators. Gen. S.N Muazu, the out-gone GOC and patron of the club is unavoidably absent, he is officially engaged and has asked me to represent him this evening, so I am wearing two caps. I want to assure you that while I remain the patron of these two golf clubs, I will do my utmost to take the two clubs to unprecedented heights.
