Anthony Joshua caught up with a few familiar faces in New York as he made the trip Stateside to watch Canelo Alvarez take the WBA super middleweight title from Rocky Fielding.

Before the eagerly-anticipated bout inside Madison Square Garden, the heavyweight king was pictured with American tennis legend John McEnroe.
McEnroe was in an eye-catching New York Knicks jacket, representing the city’s basketball franchise, but with Joshua in town, the Brit was the star attraction at ringside.

Joshua was sat ringside but as he made his way to his seat he bumped into boxing prodigy Jamir ‘Lil Future’ Robertson.

At 13, Robertson has a huge future in the sport and Joshua was quick to heap praise on the young American.

On a video that appeared on the youngster’s Instagram page, Joshua says: ‘The way you’re thinking is levels above. Big future you know!’
In the ring it was a tough night for British boxing as Fielding was crushed by the dominant Canelo, now a three-division world champion.

Joshua would have been proud of the heroic Fielding but having been sent to the canvas on more than one occasion by a relentless Alvarez, the referee had seen enough and waved it off.

Given Joshua himself has never fought outside of the United Kingdom, questions were swirling in his direction as to whether he could be in a fight in the US in 2019.

His preferred opponent is WBC champion Deontay Wilder as Joshua wants to unify the heavyweight division.

Wembley will host Joshua’s next fight on April 13 but it remains unclear if the Alabama fighter – who recently drew with Tyson Fury in Los Angeles – will be the man he faces.
