Nigeria’s 2016 Olympic Games medal hopeful, Odunayo Adekuoroye, has attributed her four consecutive wins at the on-going Pro-Wrestling League (PWL) in India to her faith in God and the contribution of the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali.

Adekuoroye, who is in the Mumbai Garuba team, on Monday defeated Liliya Horishina of Dili Veer Team 10-0 to record her fourth win as she intensifies her preparation for next year’s Olympics Games in Rio, Brazil.

Speaking to The Guardian from India, the Ondo-born wrestler, said: “Many thanks go to God Almighty who has allowed me to represent my country very well thus far. His faithfulness has been wholesome.

“Also, I want to thank my amiable President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Mr. Daniel Igali. Nigerians are not left out of this because their prayers and supports have been helpful. My fourth victory is dedicated to Dr. Igali. I can never forget him.”

Adekuoroye still has some matches left before the conclusion of the pro-league meet, but she believes the support she has been getting from the Indian fans have been tremendous and encouraging.

“I happened to be the only wrestler invited from Africa and in the whole of Commonwealth nations for the pro wrestling league. So far, I have been adjudged the best and I give God the glory. The successes so far are not only for me but also for Nigerians, Africa and to all Commonwealth nations,” she said.

The athlete, whose next match comes up today, said she hopes to do her best in order to maintain her form and not disappoint her fans.

Adekuoroye’s Mumbai Garuba team sits on top of the PWL table in the competition, which will end on Sunday.
