Abike Dabiri lauds, Joshua, Nigerian-born IBF world heavyweight boxing king

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora and Foreign Relations, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Mr. Anthony Joshua, the Nigerian-born “Mr. Femi,” who recently became the International Boxing Federation (IBF) world heavyweight boxing champion.

In a statement at the weekend in Abuja, Dabiri- Erewa, who was the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora in the Seventh Assembly, noted that Femi’s feat was a reflection of hard work, tireless dedication and a brave heart.

She also congratulated the champion on his well-deserved victory and wishing him all the very best in the future.The British professional boxer, was born to a Nigerian mother and father, spent his early years in Nigeria before returning to the United Kingdom.

Joshua stopped Charles Martin in two rounds at London’s O2 Arena to claim the IBF heavyweight title in only his 16th professional fight.
Joshua is also just the fourth man to win a pro heavyweight world title while still a reigning Olympic champion.

He joined Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks as the only men to be professional heavyweight world champions while still reigning Olympic champions.

He is now the current IBF heavyweight champion, who also holds the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.Joshua, who is ranked the world’s sixth best heavyweight boxer by The Ring magazine, will defend his title by June 25, 2016 against either Eric Molina or Dominic Breazeale.
