Two-time world champion and 2012 Olympic silver medallist Abel Kirui won the Chicago Marathon yesterday in 2hrs 11min 23sec as Kenyans swept the men’s and women’s races.

Kirui, 34, edged 2015 winner Dickson Chumba, who was second in 2:11:26, with Gideon Kipketer third in 2:12:20.

While Chumba was unable to repeat his 2015 triumph, Kenya’s Florence Kiplagat won her second straight Chicago crown, powering to a dominant victory in 2:21:32, almost two seconds ahead of runner-up Edna Kiplagat (2:23:28).

Valentine Kipketer completed the Kenyan women’s sweep, finishing third in 2:23:41.
