Oyo State government is still leaking its wounds over the relegation of crowd pulling Ibadan-based club, Shooting Stars Sorts Club (3SC) from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

3SC was sent to the lower division on the final day of the NPFL season, after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Niger Tornadoes.

Speaking with The Guardian at the weekend, Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Toye Arulogun described the team’s relegation as ‘sad,’ but assured that the state government would do everything possible to bring it back to the elite division soon.

Arulogun spoke during the unveiling of 23 young boxers, who were adjudged fit to join the professional ranks at the GOtv Boxing NextGen Search 3 held at July 21 Hall, Ring Road, Ibadan.

According to him, the present administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi was working hard to make Oyo State a sporting destination in Nigeria. “Oyo State hosted Oluyole ’79 National Sports Festival and till this moment, it remains a reference point in Nigerian sports. We are re-branding our sports and very soon, Nigerians will see a new look Team Oyo in the National Sports Festival,” he stated.

Speaking further, Arulogun said: “I must commend the efforts of GOtv and organisers of the Boxing NextGen Search 3 for this programmes. It will go a long way in bringing back the good old days in our boxing. Oyo is the home of boxing in Nigeria and I enjoin the participants to make good use of this opportunity to take their boxing careers to limelight. We want to see more Anthony Joshuas emerging from Nigerian boxing.”
