A total of 36 teams will take part in the 2019 Youth Alive Basketball Championship in three different categories, the organisers have revealed.

According to Youth Alive coordinator, Gbade Olatona, the participants include eight teams from the United Kingdom, who will compete for honours in the U16 girls’ cadre, while 14 other teams will jostle for honours in the U16 boys’ category.

Olatona, a former Ebun Comets guard, said eight elite teams will feature for the first time in the youth basketball programme holding from May 17 to May 24 at the outdoor and indoor courts of the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.

“We are committed to keep contributing our quota to basketball development in Nigeria in general and Lagos State in particular.

“Youth Alive Programme is from the stable of Deepbond Sports Initiative and we are having our 11th edition,” he said, adding, the programme has also been held in Ekiti and Osun states.
