2016 Rio Olympic Games Releases Times for Competition Schedule

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), has released the 2016 Rio Olympic Games competition schedule and specific session times for the Games.

An online portal, Theinsidegames on Friday said the first-ever Olympic to be staged in South America would officially get underway with the opening ceremony at the Maracana Stadium on Aug. 5.

It said that activities would commenced on Aug. 6 with events in archery, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling road race, equestrian eventing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, handball, hockey and judo.

Other events are rowing, rugby, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, water polo and weightlifting.

It said that particular interest for Brazilians were the scheduling of the finals for volleyball, football and basketball, which have proved to be a major draw since tickets went on sale on March 31.

The volleyball finals are due to hold at the Maracanazinho on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21, while the basketball finals will hold at the Carioca Arena one.

The Maracana Stadium is set to host the football finals on Aug. 19 and Aug. 20.
