No fewer than 1000 sportsmen and women will converge at this year’s autism awareness walk and cycling exercise holding today in Lagos.

The exercise, organised by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) in partnership with Cycology Club, is to commemorate the April 2 World Autism Awareness Day and to draw public attention to the plight of parents and children living with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Among the athletes already penciled for the 55km cycling event is the duo of Special Olympian cyclists – Dayo Adekoya and Chidubem Emuwa.

Ladipo Soetan of Cycology Club hinted that the walk for autism would kick off by 7.00 a.m. from Town Planning Way Bus Stop, Ilupeju, while the Cycling for Autism initiative would take off at 6.00 a.m. from the Syrian Club, Ribadu Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The cycling will cover major routes in the Lagos metropolis such as the Third Mainland Bridge, Oworonsoki, Gbagada, Ikorodu Road all through to the GTB Headquarters in Victoria Island.

Co-partners of the awareness campaign, Patrick Speech and Language Centre, The Learning Place Centre, Lekki and Children’s Developmental Centre (CDC), all urged members of the public to come out and be part of the programme, particularly the 8km walk.
