Young Designer Of The Week: A. Michael Ariol
The Ama-Ariol Brand was founded in May 2015, and is led Creatively by Fashion, Designer, A.Michael Ariol. Ama-Ariol’s Style is defined by it’s modern, artistic and clean timeless designs. He tells The Guardian his story..
TELL us about yourself, growing up, family background, education and all. I grew up in Lagos, graduated with a degree in Computer Science from OOU, and then I studied Fashion and Design at the Oak Fashion and Design Institute. What else do you do for a living? I’m exclusively a fashion designer.
So even when I’m not working on Ama-Ariol, I’m still drawing sketches or coming up with designs for a client or for future use. Please fill us in on your rise to fame and how did it all start? I’ve always had a passion for Fashion, from the artistry to the technical construction aspects of it, and so when I saw the chance to build on those skills by going to fashion school, I jumped at the opportunity, shortly afterwards I got an internship with a renowned designer, and I got to learn a whole lot about the different aspects of the industry.
In 2015, I decided the time was right to put my vision out in a brand, and so Ama-Ariol was born. Which of your many jobs excite you the most? My job as a designer. You know, although it can be hectic a lot of times but very few people get to earn a living doing what they love, and so I consider myself blessed.
What other areas of your career are you looking to explore? There’s still a lot for me to learn and explore, I’m open to every new experience that life has to offer, the good the bad and the ugly, but I pray for the good, and strength to learn from the rest.
What has been the high point of your Fashion Career? So far, Ama-Ariol is a very young Brand, so the High Point so to speak was the release of “Adam” in May 2015.
I felt like what I imagine a new parent would feel on the birth of their first child. What has been the lowest so far? I really can’t pin point a lowest point, I mean the Brand’s still young, so perhaps the excitement of novelty helps view every challenge from a positive perspective more as a learning experience. Ask me again in 5 years time.
What are the plans for the future- short term goals, anything? We’ve already started working on our Dry Season Collection, which would also see the introduction of some of our Women’s wear, also we’ve built some partnerships with creative like minds, so I’m excited that the next coming years will be filled with amazing surprises.
Tell us about your most recent Collection? What was the inspiration? Our R/S 2015 Collection “Adam” was inspired by the raw primacy and brutal sense of survival of the first man.
With earth toned colors, hand embroidered stitches and patches and the simplicity of the sheer linen shirts, we hope to convey a sense of beauty that is tacked together by need, styled by nature. You can check us out on our website www.ama-ariol.blogspot.com
