The Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, has embarked on a capacity building programme towards educating young people about existing opportunities in the hospitality industry.

Tagged Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month, the series of programmes, which are expected to last till the end of the month, has been described as the largest global career events organized by the hotel.

According to the Public Relations Manager, Mr. Shola Adeyemo, the initiative is part of Bright Blue Futures – a global program that encourages Hilton team Members to devote their time and expertise in helping young people pursue professional development.

The hotel had on May 7, hosted a Career Fair for the youth. The programme provided platform for interaction between participants and Hilton team members.

“The Career Fair familiarized them with Hilton’s organizational culture. Over 300 students drawn from 15 secondary schools in Abuja participated at the Fair.

“Also in attendance at the Fair were 45 young men and women, who will be taking part in a four-week hospitality internship program in the hotel”, Adeyemo informed.

Participants were taken in a guided tour of the building as well as various departments where they met with professionals from all areas of activity at the hotel.

“Through career speed networking, team members shared advice on the skills and attributes participants need as they embark on their chosen careers.

“Careers@Hilton Live events provide unique opportunity for Hilton team members to inspire and encourage those interested in the hospitality industry.”

Earlier in his remarks, the General Manager, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Kevin Brett, noted that since young people have continued to face challenging employment prospects, it was pertinent to ensure they receive information and advice about available options, skills and attributes required as they embark on their chosen careers.

“We are passionate about raising awareness of the opportunities the hospitality industry offers and we are delighted to be doing this during the month of May when we are celebrating 100 Years of Hilton”, Brett stated.

For the Director, Human Resources, Omorinsola Sofola, “activities we have put in place for this year’s Careers@Hilton are a great way of engaging and inspiring the youth, and we are delighted to be part of such a fantastic initiative.”

Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month is part of Hilton Worldwide’s Open Doors commitment aimed at positively impacting not less one million young people by the end of 2019 by preparing them to reach their full potentials.
