Rewarding outstanding output at Apostolic Faith School Founder’s Day

Only Youths with sound education, well informed and equipped with latest skills especially in information and communication technology will play big in the ever-advancing 21st century.” This admonition was given by the Head of Department, Mass Communication, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Charles Oni at the Founder’s Day celebration of Apostolic Faith Secondary School (AFSS), Anthony Village, Lagos which was held recently.

Dr. Oni who doubled as guest speaker on the occasion urged the students to be studious, hardworking and to inculcate Godly virtue attained in the course of their education in the college. Oni said, as the 21st century is witnessing unprecedented advancement in education; and the world community is seeking recourse to science and technology while artificial intelligence is now competing with human beings in the labour market, every student should brace up in order to achieve sound education, be well informed and equipped, so as to further their education in higher institutions in the nearest future and to be role models for Nigeria.

The 17th birthday of AFSS was marked with dignity and characterized by showers of prizes and awards to the academic and non-teaching staff, old students and current students in the school. In appreciation of the awardees efforts toward the school’s progress, long service award and prizes were given to the second times Principal, Mr. Suraj Olanrewaju Amidu; for Amidu the occasion was double in brass as he was decorated and thus become the Patron of Anthony Unit Man O’ War Command in recognition of his meritorious service to humanity; and strings of successes AFSS has recorded in numerous junior and senior secondary West Africa Examination Council exams; various science and technology competitions among others.

Other recipients of long service awards include, the Academic Principal, Mrs. Oladele Labake Idoko; Registrar, Mrs. Kikelomo Ajiboye; Mrs. Tolonisede Veronica Ade; Mrs. Fowokan Modupe Olufunmilola; Mrs. Adigun Margaret; Mrs. Agholor Fayokemi Mudirakat; Mr. Oluwagbemiga Kayode Ebenezer; Mrs. Akhaine Veronica Omodele and Mr. Kukoyi Olurotimi Ayoola. For the students categories, best student NECO was coveted by Ohalete Ifunanya; best student NECO and WASSCE Anumudu Akachukwu; senior school best behaved day student, Egbogu Joy; best behaved boarder, Olaoye Michael; most dutiful boy, Isaac Daudu; most dutiful girl, Kelly-Kalu Mercy; neatest classes JSS 2 and SSS 2 Mable; neatest boy, Anene Tobenna; neatest girl, Okoro Irene and; junior school outstanding prefect and most dutiful boy, Wankyo Josiah; best behaved day student, Alasonye Anthony; best behaved boarder, Ojo Toluwani; most dutiful girl, Opasanya Deborah; neatest boy, Ayobanjo Emmanuel and neatest girl, Chisomaga Nonso-Onyia among others.

Addressing the audience, Proprietor, Rev. Adebayo Adeniran represented by the Chairman of the event, Rev. Sola Opaleye said the event called for festivity and elaborate felicitation, because the college has been able to sustain the objectives of establishing the school, which focused on education with sound moral upbringing and fear of God; giving the students right values; academic excellence and successes recorded in science and technology and other subjects; confidence reposed in the students to face examinations without fear or intimidation; and to cap it all, peaceful and healthy environment bestowed on the school through the grace and presence of God. Oplaleye admonished all students to abide by the promises of God with reference to Deuteronomy 28: 1 to 14 as guarantee for their joy, wellbeing, peace and good success.

Amidu on behalf of the School Board of Governors, thanked Apostolic Faith Church, which coincidentally was marking her 75th years in Nigeria, teachers, parents, members of staff and students for their prayers, support and cooperation for the achievements recorded saying “We have a lot to say and thank God for the vision and mission God had given the Late Rev. Paul Ogechukwu Akazue that brought the school to existence.” He expressed gratitude for the efforts of the pioneer Principal, Mummy Omobusola Osidipe and Vice Principal, Mrs. Modupeola Abe, teachers and staff members till date. Highpoints of the event include, songs rendered by the school choir, presentation of home appliances such fridges, cash prices and plaques; while vote of thanks was said by Mrs. Oladele Idoko rounding off the celebration.
