As a follow up to the maiden edition held last year, the Lagos State government has unveiled plans to stage One Lagos Fiesta (OLF) this year. Starting from December 24, the 8-day gig will run simultaneously across the five designated locations at Agege Stadium, Badagry Stadium, Ikorodu Town Hall, the Barbeach and Epe Recreation Center.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Arts and Culture, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, the second edition of the yuletide fun filled programme will be bigger, better and bolder in terms of scope and new contents already developed for the programme.

Akinsola, who is the Chairman of the Executive Council Committee for the fiesta, disclosed that the expanded One Lagos Fiesta will feature all genres of music and traditional cultural performances such as hip hop, reggae, R&B, gospel, fuji, juju, oldies and more. This, she said, will reflect the diversity and multicultural colour of Lagos State as intended by the state government.

“As usual, entry to the venue of the programme commencing from Christmas eve on December 24 till the wee hours of the new year will be free for all Lagosians,” she said.

She also announced the debut of a new talent hunt component tagged Lagos’ Got Talent, which seeks to identify, celebrate and compensate exceptional raw talent among the youths or the young at heart in the areas of music, dance, comedy and other creative abilities. She assured Lagosians that adequate preparation have been concluded for safety and security of everyone across the five locations throughout the eight days fanfare.

Speaking at a press briefing held recently to herald the show, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy Steve Ayorinde informed that the reason for expansion of the fiesta is to keep Lagosians, especially our teeming youths, happy and creatively busy.

“You will recall that we have just had a successful maiden edition of The Lagos Street Party (TLSP) recently, in which the popular Ahmadu Bello way in Victoria Island was turned into a carnival and concert ground. While TLSP delivered on its mandate to formally usher in the Yuletide season in Lagos and create an additional platform for creative enterprise to flourish, OLF will fulfill its traditional obligation of ending the year on an entertaining note and usher in the new year with fun and fanfare, while carrying along every part of the state in line with the governor’s electoral promise that no part of Lagos will be left behind,” he said.

On the introduction of Lagos’ Got Talent, Ayorinde explained, “it seeks to discover, celebrate and reward exceptional talents among the youth or the young at heart in the areas of music, dance, comedy and other creative stunts. If you are talented in any of these areas and you are looking for a platform to showcase your skills and begin a rewarding journey to stardom, then this year’s OLF is the platform you need,” he said.
