Mountain project… A message of hope from Waje

Just when people had started asking of her whereabouts, singer Aituaje Iruobe, otherwise known as Waje in the showbiz circle, responded with a brand new single Mountain, an inspirational song featuring South Africa’s powerful vocalist, Lira.

Officially released on March 1, 2017, the song was mixed and mastered by Olaitan Dada, produced and co-written by SizzlePro, with back-up vocals from Natalio productions. The video, which was shot in Lagos, was produced by Jennifer Alegieuno and directed by award winning director Clarence peters.

In what seems like a perfect platform to sample the new track to the entire African continent, Waje teamed up with Lira to perform Mountain at the fifth edition of the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held recently at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The new song, aside from being an inspirational track with message of hope, is part of the effort by both artistes to raise their voice Xenophobia attacks in South Africa.

With the song currently enjoying favourable airplay, the award-winning singer, has kicked off her Mountain Project, shortly after dropping the video to the track.Waje took to her Instagram recently to announce the project by taking on the persona of different Nigerian women, who have distinct struggles, but are persistent and resilient to keep on striving through it all. She urges the audience to share a story about a Mountain in their life and how they have been able to keep climbing it. Mountain in itself capitalises on the celebration of the persistence, resilience spirit of the African individual especially the women in our society.

Speaking to HipTv in an exclusive interview, the singer said, “this project is aimed at encouraging everyone to celebrate and embrace the concept of victory through trails in life. Everyone has a story but the underlying idea of this project is to make people see their stories as that of persistence and determination, of the will to keep striving even amidst struggles. Which demonstrates the fact that as individuals, no matter what life throws at us, we can climb any mountain,” she said.

Though she had been working in the background for years, Waje came into spotlight in 2008 after being featured in a couple hit singles, particularly P-Square’s hit, Do Me.
