All is now set for the second edition of the second edition of the Mandiba Media free media training workshop. Organised in partnership with the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation, the five-day training session is a follow up to the maiden edition held last year in Awka, Anambra State capital.

Billed to open on August 19, at the Beverly Hills Hotel Nnewi and Logart Hills Hotel Ekwulobia all in Anambra State, the session will focus on key areas of media including Graphics Designing, Digital Media Marketing, Photography, Political Communication, Basics of Broadcasting and a special lecture on Security and Information Management.

Speaking ahead of the event, the initiator Frances Olisa-Ogbonna said the programme is in line with the resolve of Mandiba Media to support young and talented individuals, who seek knowledge in the media industry.

“Following the dearth of mainstream media practitioners in the Southeast and the fact that these days certificates are no longer enough to earn a living, there’s need for young people to acquire extra skills to hone their abilities. So, this platform was created to serve this purpose; to equip young people with skills to succeed.”

On the choice of locations for the training, Olisa-Ogbonna, who is a broadcaster with Kiss FM Lagos explained, “We settled for those venues after some opinion sampling; I discussed with my sponsors and supporters and they saw the reason for us to keep taking the message closer to the people. I sincerely wish to thank my sponsor Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation and other supporters for keying into my dreams of changing lives and I urge everyone, especially those asking us to bring the Free Media Training to their cities that we are ready to work with them.”

The training, according to the broadcaster, “is very important to young persons and the young at hearts as it provides opportunities to acquire new skills in media business; the gains are too numerous because we worked with reputable media experts.”

From all indication, the Rediscover Yourself empowerment program has come to stay, as the organisers plan to make it a yearly event. “We won’t stop till joblessness is reduced to its barest minimum in the Southeast in particular and Nigeria in general.”

It would be recalled that the first edition of the training was held at the Kenneth Dike E-Library, Awka and covered sessions in different aspects of the creative industry, including cinematography, editing, content creation, radio and TV presentation/production and online PR. The intellectual session also created platform for experts to share tips on how to run a successful media venture in Nigeria. This year’s edition has the support of Innoson Motors, Hon Chris Azubogu and Beverly Hills Hotel.
