Honeywell Flour Mills Plc has said that the recession plaguing the economy notwithstanding, it will continue to add value to the people through its numerous corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Managing Director, Mr. Lanre Jaiyeola who stated this during Honeyewell/NYSC Wheatmeal Cooking Competition at NYSC Iyana Ipaja Camp, Lagos recently, noted that although the company is feeling the heat of the recession just like any other corporate organization, but it will not allow the economic hardship to affect its avowed responsibility to the populace just as the company attaches much importance to youth development and will continue to tap on its CSR activities to bring out the best in them.

Jaiyeola, represented by Innovation and Consumer Insight Manager, Mr. Lanre DaSilva, said the cooking competition, which started in 2009, was part of initiatives of the foremost flour miller to shape the youth, re-orientate them and make them more creative. According to him “every individual has innate skills which when properly harnessed will push them beyond their limitations”.

At the occasion attended by top notch of the NYSC including State Coordinator, Mr. Cyril Akhanemhe, Jayeola reiterated the company’s readiness to continue aligning with any cause to promote entrepreneurship as exemplified in the quantum support it is given the NYSC and similar other ones. He urged youths to imbibe the spirit of entrepreneurship, as this will reduce the quest for non-existing white collar jobs and further reduce poverty.

According to him, Honeywell remains a leading flour milling company in Nigeria, and have operated successfully, because “we are entrepreneurial in nature. We usually go to the turf where no other one will go. Once we know there are opportunities there, we pursue it and we are relentless and consistent”.

He noted that the competition aimed at bringing out the unique skills of the corps members with a view to equipping them for future challenges. It will also endear them early enough to the company’s products by making them Honeywell Ambassadors.
