CDS Group seeks gender balance for women

In celebration of 2020 International Women’s Day (IWD), the community and development service (CDS), gender and servicom group at Oshodi-Isolo Local Council organised a seminar for its National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on the theme: ‘Gender inequality affecting women in industries and leadership position in Nigeria’ where speakers demanded gender balance.

While speaking on the Topic Sumbo Oladipo noted, “this is the right time in Nigeria’s history to help find a better gender-balanced world, adding that the theme, “Gender inequality affecting women in industries and leadership position in Nigeria”, is very apt because in many countries, especially in Nigeria, there has not been balancing for women in many areas. This is an opportunity for women to engage government on how to have a more gender-balanced world in appointments, nominations and engagements at various levels of government.”

Another invited guest speaker pastor Mike Ohamua said, “We are looking at providing women and girls with equal access to education; health care, decent work and representation in pol and eco decision-making processes will nurture sustainable economies. You know, achieving gender equality will require enforcement legislation that promotes the empowerment of all women and girls requires secondary education of all rights,” he added.

According to the vice president of gender and servicom CDS group Odutola Gbohunmi she said, “Women are adorable. We are equal to the task. We can be Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Directors, Governor’s, president, Head of organisations and others. The seminar was also for female corps members; men are not excluded because they can help create gender balance. Nigerian women need a step-by-step planning as we move on in the year and for the new dispensation to really move us forward to the next level in line with the theme. In decision-making where women are demanding for 40 percent representation, this is necessary because men are the ones holding the majority of the positions.

So, therefore, our demand is that if more women are given the chance, there would be ripple effect down to the economy, policy, environment and even the way of living,” she stated.
