Buhari At FUTO’s 28th Convocation, Lauds Management Over Landmark Achievement
Okorocha Gives automatic job, cash to best student
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has commended the management and staff of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), for the academic performance of the school and also for the availability of the necessary infrastructure.
The president, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, stated this at the 28th Convocation ceremony of 3,177 graduands of the institution.
Of the number, 24 students made first class, 934 graduated with a master’s degree, six Ph.Ds, 69 MBA and 426 Post Graduate Diploma.
Apart from this, Alhaji Aliyu Musdafa was installed the school’s Chancellor, while doctorial awards were given to Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha; former governor of Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and a post humous award to Senator Uche Chukwumerije.
The Imo State governor gave automatic employment and N200,000 cash prize to the over-all best graduating student, Ifediora Elechukwu of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, whose CGPA is 4.80.
Buhari urged all the institutions in the country to queue into the pivot of his administration in the measures to fight corruption and ineffectiveness, adding that his regime is open to listening to Nigerians on ideas to move the nation forward.
He said: “We are ever open to ideas on how to solve our problems and move the country forward. Universities are therefor expected to queue into this vision to ensure academic environment devoid of academic corruption and financial embezzlement. The good work of the school must continue for the good moral achievement.”
