From Redemption to Emotions, Traditions, Goosebumps, International Badman Killer and finally Unleash, it seems the year 2019 is going to be another great year for singer and songwriter, Runtown. The Mad Over You hit maker, took to his Instagram page on Sunday, April 7, where he shared the tracklist for his in the works extended play (EP), Afrobeats and Stadiums, the first under his independent platform, Soundgod Music.

Runtown had a few months ago after his exit from Eric Manny Entertainment upon the expiration of his contract with the outfit in June 2018, and become an independent act, announced that he would be releasing his EP. He subsequently started his own label, Soundgod Music Group.

The Ghetto University maker, who recently got cleared by the courts in his case against his former label, revealed that he was set to release a new EP this year, a project he disclosed in a recent interview with OkayAfrica was inspired by watching musicians from across the world selling out stadiums.

“We are trying to take Afrobeats to the real arenas of the world. You see how artistes like The Weeknd are doing it in big arenas? Afrobeats deserve that kind of energy. So I am recording this project, which will contain music for the world, but also music for my people. We have found that balance in the music and we’re about to drop the project on that wave,” Runtown said.

In 2018, Runtown also took part in writing and production camps for Rihanna’s next album, her upcoming ninth studio album, which is scheduled for release later in the year and he is hopeful that his contributions will eventually make it to the final cut.

Born in the Enugu, on August 19, 1989 and christened Douglas Jack Agu, Runtown grew up partly in Abuja and Lagos, where he had most of his primary education. Shortly after the death of his dad, he relocated to Abuja and in 2007, he moved back to Enugu, where his paths crossed with that of indigenous rapper Phyno after his W.A.E.C examinations.

His impressive rise to the top began with the release of chart topping singles like Gallardo, Successful in early 2014. Shortly afterwards, the same year, he inked a multi-million naira recording deal with Eric Manny Entertainment owned by the C.E.O of Dilly Motors.

With hard work and consistency, his career has grown in leaps and bounds, even as he keeps putting his name and brand on a global pedestal. With his debut album ‘Ghetto University’, which he dropped in November 2015, he has been able to penetrate the African music markets starting from Nigeria to Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, Ghana and Cameroun.

As if that’s not enough, his monster hit single Bend Down Pause became an instant international hit, as it blew into the Caribbean including Barbados, Dominican Republic, and Trinidad & Tobago.

The success of the song, saw Runtown, Soca biggest artiste, Machel Montanno jumped on the remix of Bend down Pause and he was selected as an headliner along side Pitbull, Lil John and Major Lazer to performed at the biggest Soca event, where sexy divas Amber Rose and Blac Chyna all twerked to his music.
