The Exquisite Women of the Year (ELOY) Awards might have come and gone, its memory remains refreshing. Held last Sunday, November 25, at the Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, the yearly reward scheme is designed to celebrate women who have been exceptional in their endeavours during the year.

Tenth in the series, this year’s award paraded 21 award categories with Lush hair attachment, a stable from Lucky Fibres Plc, a fashion and lifestyle company sponsored two categories — Fashion Designer of the Year and Actress of the Year.

Three days earlier, the nominee party, held at the Ayo Van Elmar Fashion Cafe, Oriental Hotel, Lagos, assembled all the nominees for networking under a funfair atmosphere. The main award event started with a red carpet at 5pm, with the entry point beautifully occupied by the sponsors including Lucky Fibre, who showcased their products.

The fashion designer category had seven nominees: Nonninstics, Style Temple, Tubo, Moofa Fashions, Wani Fuga, Imad Eduso and Gozel Green. Tubo won the category amidst applause.

Actress of the year category had Mercy Johnson Okojie nominated for her role in Seven and a Half Dates; Toyin Abraham (Ghost and a Tout), Bimbo Ademoye (Backup Wife), Bisola Aiyeola (Payday), Zainab Balogun (Sylvia), Chioma Omeruah (Crazy People) and Bukunmi Oluwashina (Ranti mi). Mercy Johnson Okojie won the category.

There was a new twist to this year’s nominee party as the ELOY awards team decided to issue nomination certificates to all nominees at the party. “This is a way of appreciating all the nominees and letting them know that everyone is a winner regardless of who wins,” said Tewa Onasanya, publisher of Exquisite Magazine and creator of ELOY awards.

“The objective of the award is to celebrate and bring to limelight hard working women, who, against all odds, have thrived in their chosen fields and careers. From their humble beginnings, to how they have grown to become people other women and men admire. They are now mentors that young people emulate while striving for success. The dream is to have the award grow each year,” she added.

Congratulating the winners, the Brand Manager, Lush Hair, Sukhmbir Pannu revealed that the two categories were sponsored because it is an industry in Nigeria that has supported and allowed women to express their creativity.

Sukhmbir said, “Lucky Fibres, the parent company of Lush Hair, have been supporting ELOY Awards for the past five years. This year, our newest brand, Lush Hair, is supporting the event because it is in line with the brand vision. The Lush Hair brand stands for confident, modern and trendy women. And that is what ELOY award is all about.

“In the fashion and movie industry, you find women exhibiting their strength and passion. Both winners in the categories sponsored by Lush Hair tonight are women who are on top of their game as actress and as fashion designer respectively.”Winner of the Fashion Designer of the Year, Sandrah Tubobereni, Creative Director of Tubo, commended the organisers of the event and Lush for sponsoring the category. She also received Lush products from Lush Hair, in addition to the award.
