Correct societal ills through your songs, Beautiful Nubia urges fellow musicians

Folklore singer, Segun Akinlolu well known by the stage name Beautiful Nubia, has implored musicians in the country to use their God-given talents to correct the ills of the society.

According to the musician, inspiring songs would help correct some of the ills of the society, adding that good lyrics would also help people to overcome some of the challenges confronting the society.

“We have to sing about the challenges that people face every day and what we are not doing right and we want the leaders to correct. Musicians should not copy other people’s culture but they should use them to promote our culture to others,” he said.

The singer said he choose to sing folklore in a traditional way to reflect people’s lives and what was wrong in the society. “My music is a tradition-natural and contemporary in nature.

“We have to teach people how to be tolerant, honest, hard work, good neighbourliness, sincerity, love and protect one another through our songs. That is why I sing for societal change and the need to be upright in whatever we do,” he added.

Nubia also stated that his songs are inspired by peoples’ lives and had become a tool to sensitise the masses toward good life.

He noted that change would come when people are ready for it and musicians would help accomplish such change by composing and singing good songs.

According to him, “Africa’s biggest challenge is not poverty caused by the economic situation as people had been saying, rather people are suffering from the poverty of character and lack of workable home-grown ideas.”

Nubia has numerous hits to his credit including, Seven lives (1997), Voice from heaven (1999), Fire on the roof (2001) Jangbalajugbu (2002) and Ojo (2016) among others.
