A new set of artistes who are making waves across the continent was the focus of this week’s African Voices, a magazine programme of the Cable News Network (CNN) sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom.

CNN in a vignette of the show explained that the increasing significance of performance of the artistes on the continent was the focus of the programme this week. It added that whether they sought the spotlight or fell into it by chance, “the performers across Africa are daring to bare their souls on stage.”

The programmed profiled three guest celebrities from South Africa, Mozambique and Uganda. Shannon Glover, the South African, was the first performance star to be featured.

Born in Durban, Glover launched her dance training in Johannesburg at the age of four and got awarded her RAD Solo Seal few years after. She was subsequently the winner of the South African RAD Adeline Geneè Silver Trophy and thereafter represented South Africa at the International Ballet Competition in Birmingham, U.K.

Talking about her career, CNN said, “We will leap into the world of the top South African ballerina to see how her passion for pirouettes has turned into a successful career”.

Next was Mozambican singer, Deltino Guerreiro, who is described as one dreamer using his distinctive voice to do big things. His songs are a potpourri of emotional sounds and lyrics in different languages (Portuguese, English and Macua) and soothing melodies.

The CNN crew equally travelled to New York, U.S.A to encounter Uganda-born comic enigma, Joseph Opio, whose jokes is heard every week on one of America’s top news satire shows, the Daily Show.

The programme which aired at 10.30am will have a repeat editions at 2.30pm on Saturday; 12.30am and 7.30 pm on Sunday, while viewers can also keep a date with the show on Monday at 11:30pm and on Tuesday at 5.30 am
