Mufutau Olatinwo: Quintessential Son of Offa (September 16, 1954 — July 27, 2019)

Dr. Mufutau Olatinwo was born on September 16, 1954 in Offa, Offa Local Council of Kwara State and died on July 27, 2019.

Olatinwo, who distinguished himself as an educational administrator of repute, started his education at Offa Grammar School, Offa. He later proceeded to the prestigious University of Ibadan for his first degree in Physics between 1974 and 1976

An ex Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Olatinwo read Geophysics at Masters and Doctoral levels at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

Conferred with several honours and awards, this quintessential son of Offa, born with a proverbial silver spoon in the mouth to the great industrialist and a leading Islamic icon, Alhaji Tiamiyu Olatinwo, he weathered through the storms of life to become a fulfilled husband, father, and community leader.

It was the ingenuity of Olatinwo that brought back the lost glories of the polytechnic when he was appointed first as acting Rector for 2years then substantive Rector for two terms of 4 years each. in the year. He served in that capacity for 10 years and displayed to both the academic and the host communities exemplary leadership qualities.

His contributions to community works endeared him to Kabiyesi, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mohammed Gbadamosi, and distinguished members of the apex social cultural body in Offa, the Offa Descendants Union, (ODU).

His wife, Hajia Musilimat attested to his sterling leadership role as a husband just as all his children described him as a ‘caring and loving father’. The testimonies of the entire ‘Ummah’ in Offa and all his neighbours concerning him are excellent.

A widely-traveled man, Olatinwo among other notable countries of the world had visited: United Kingdom, Sweden, United States, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and so on.

Following the footsteps of his late father, who until his demise about five years ago, the Deputy President of Ansar-Ud- Deen Society of Nigeria, he went on the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca in 1996

His younger brother, Prof.r A. W. O. Olatinwo, who was the immediate Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Ilorin, described him as a jolly good brother, a confidant and a peace-loving sibling.

The former CMD, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, added, “he was a pillar in the family. He tried his best to fill the gap left by our late father. He truly led the ways for us all to follow. He has no doubt etched his name in the sands of history. We all miss him dearly in the family.

He was a member of many professional associations and a fellow of numerous bodies.
