Banks Music head honcho, Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, better known by his stage name Reekado Banks, has come through with the new single titled Speak To Me. The track, which is off his extend play (EP) entitled Off The Record, features former label mate and self-proclaimed original ‘African bad girl’, Tiwa Savage.

The pop star has also released an accompanying visual for the record, which is fast gaining acceptance from fans and alike. The Adasa Cookey directed video features the duo of BBNaija season 5 stars, Brighto Osemudiame (Brighto) and Wathoni Anyansi (Wathoni).

Off The Record is a 16-minute project that has guest appearances from Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Kida Kudz, EO, Mr Eazi and Harmonize. It was produced by one of the nation’s music baddest producers, Young John ‘the wicked producer.’

Indeed an exciting 2021 start for Reekado Banks and Queen of Afro-pop, Off The Record is a seven tracks music project that houses Reeky’s 2019 mega hit song Rora and two previously released singles in 2020, Need More and You Dey Mad.

The project strikes a balance between intimate sounds and major pop moves, as Reekado Banks taps into his heritage, declaring Nigeria his home with Harmonize for the highlife-influenced Mama.

Describing 2020 as arduous year additionally defined by landmark movements across the world, the 26-year-old said much of his growth, as a person and musician is traceable on Off The Record, adding that the recently released EP has been a little over a year in the works.

“2020 was an eventful year for me; I found myself in positions I didn’t think I was ever going to be in. I was away (from Nigeria) for like six months, and until I left, it was indefinite when I was going to come back. So, it was a crazy, mental space, but I’ve been back thankfully.

He continued: “I did shows earlier in the year; had a recording camp in Atlanta, and did a tour in the United Kingdom. The year 2020 was really so many things that don’t even correlate but I’m happy to be here and happy to be putting out a project that is really dear to me. It’s my second project and it’s coming after four years. It sums up how eventful last year was.”

On when the idea for Off The Record started, the Katapot crooner said: “It was conceived in 2019. I had a recording camp in Lagos and we had a bunch of songs recorded. Considering how many songs I already had, my management thought we should put out little bodies of work to give the fans stuff to listen to asides from an album or other bigger projects.

“We came up with the name, Off The Record, for one of those projects that we intended to give out to fans, and that was how it all came about,” he added.
