Okey Bakassi celebrates golden age in grand style
Popular actor, comedian and member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, turned 50 last week (on October 23), and as expected, there was loud cheers from home and abroad for one of Nigeria’s finest comedian, who is best known as Okey Bakassi.
There was a novelty football match to close the birthday shindig for the product of Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), who had his first outing as an actor in 1993, featuring in Zeb Ejiro’s television soap, Fortunes.
Married with children, the veteran comedian had on October 23 released a terse message on his social media handles to announce that he had turned 50, saying: “It is a happy day…it’s my 50th birthday today. I thank God for His love and mercy and for surrounding me with awesome family, friends and fame.
“Please, say a little prayer for me.”
And indeed, the prayers and best wishes poured in for the versatile entertainer, who is respected in the Nigerian entertainment circuit.
