Left behind are the ages when Nigerians strive to shop for qualitative foreign clothes abroad, as citizens home and diasporas now stick to made in Nigeria clothing by Nigerian designers who are not only creative in designing clothes, but making use of qualitative local fabrics in diversity such that attracts ovation all over the world, narrating the African culture, history and heritage in its uniqueness and peculiarity.

Based on this fact, Olasunkanmi Dasilver and his team has initiated a two-day Nigerian Designers Awards and Fashion Show (NDAFS), billed to commence on December 2, 2018 at The Podium Lekki, Lagos in order to appreciate these top-notch local designers whilst empowering upcoming ones to be better.

“The importance of clothing for the human race cannot be underestimated, as it is one of the basic needs for living asides shelter and food. This is why we decided to give accolades to these tireless and creative designers who not only make us beautiful with good image credibility internationally, but also tell the African story in their design detailing.

“This event would not only be used to promote the Nigerian brand, but to reach out to young chaps who do not have a platform to showcase their talents and hardwork whilst connecting them for projection. The designing work has a lot to do with passion and a lot of these designers indulge in their creativity art due to their inner passion which should be encouraged, which is why we are calling for well meaning Nigerians to join hands and sponsor NDAFS,” Dasilver said.

Speaking at a recent press conference in Lagos, Tessy Ohen said the ideology is to encourage designers to do more, as well as tell the story of their humble beginning. “Also to empower young entrepreneurs that are doing well, to tell Nigerians that voice can be given to the voiceless.

“There is going to be empowerment session for designers upcoming designers and we would give them something to start up with. We have positive industrious people, a lot of them put pieces together with African fabrics and people marvel at the creativity” she said.

Ohen further said the selection criteria for empowerment of upcoming designers would be from the slum areas of Lagos and participants will be taken unawares for credibility. “Our team would go to these places and pick them without prior information for credibility,” she said. The maiden event, which is in two categories, will have exhibition on Day-1 and award for top-notch designers who has made Nigeria proud with their passion for creativity over the years on Day-2.
