Kangiwa promises sustainable business, seeks support of ITPN

The newly appointed Director General, National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Alhaji Nura Kangiwa, has pledged committed to increasing manpower capacity of the Institute for sustainable tourism development in Nigeria.
Kangiwa Nura spoke during the week in a meeting with the management team at the institute following his official resumption of duty on Tuesday, September 1.
He said one of his priorities is to ensure that the Institute makes a sustainable business in the country by enhancing the capacity of the Institute to international standards as according to him, it would be impossible to successfully create and market competitive tourism products and destinations without efficient and knowledgeable hands.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on August 25, approved the appointment of Kangiwa as the substantive Director General of NIHOTOUR through a letter signed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
Speaking with NIHOTOUR management team in his office, Kangiwa commended the efforts of his predecessor, Alhaji Kabiru Momoh, who was in acting capacity for over two years.
“You have indeed set a formidable template for me to work with. Hence, you and I shall work very closely to improve the processes and operations of NIHOTOUR for the long-term benefits of Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism sector.
The new DG further solicited the support of staff and members of the Institute in his drive to reposition the leading hospitality and tourism professionals’ training organization in Nigeria and West Africa.
Meanwhile, Kangiwa recently paid a visit to the National Secretariat of the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) in Abuja. He said the quality of service delivery in the hospitality and tourism sector of the national economy depends largely on the level of standards and competence of the workforce in the industry.
The new Director General of NIHOTOUR reiterated his commitment to move the Nigerian Tourism and Hospitality sector forward by bringing on board all key players, relevant interest groups and critical stakeholders to develop a strong human capacity base for the industry that can deliver quality services in line with global standards and best practices.
He said his visit to ITPN is to seek the collaborative support of the Institute (ITPN) as a professional certification body of the tourism and hospitality industry in line with the training which NIHOTOUR provides, noting that he will ensure the enhancement of a cordial working relationship between NIHOTOUR and ITPN.
In his remarks, the president of ITPN, Chief Abiodun Odusanwo (FITPN) expressed his delight with the visit saying this will go a long way in ensuring a healthy working relationship between the two organizations in the best interest of the industry in particular and the country at large.
Chief Odusanwo said ITPN would continue to carry out its mandate in the systematic professional development that will avail the sector with certified skilled manpower for excellent service delivery in the Nigerian tourism industry in line with global standards.
While wishing Kangiwa a successful tenure at NIHOTOUR, Odusanwo said the ITPN is always available to avail him with best the possible support in the discharge of the onerous task ahead of building a strong human capacity base that will service the industry in the most effective and best efficient manner.
